Maulana Wahiduddin Khan's talk at Jamia Millia Islamia

CPS Founder Maulana Wahiduddin Khan delivered a talk on 'Islam and the Modern Age' at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, 17 August 2016. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr. Rajinder Sachar, Former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. The program was chaired by Prof. Altaf Ahmad Azmi, Former Dean, Faculty of Islamic Studies and Social Sciences, Jamia Hamdard.
In his speech, the Maulana advised Muslims of the present day to consider the history of the modern world as part of Islamic history, rather than being antagonistic to it. He said that the phenomena which characterize the modern age, such as freedom, democracy and scientific advances should be received positively by Muslims. In fact, the beginning of these developments can be traced back to Islam and Islamic history. The Maulana further emphasized that when Islam began, people used to be divided between friends and enemies. But the Prophet of Islam gave the vision to Muslims to look at everyone as friends. We should thus consider people as either friends of Islam or its supporters. There are no enemies at all. Muslims should develop this positive mindset so that they can avail of the numerous opportunities presented by the modern age, and perform the task of global dawah, or conveying the message of God to people.
