Human beings have been placed in this world for the purpose of being put to the test. Those who follow the will of God will after death, be ushered into eternal paradise, while those who deviate from the divine path will be held deserving of hell. This is the most serious of life’s realities. To keep man abreast of this reality, God sent His prophets in all ages. And finally the Prophet Muhammad was sent as His last Messenger. This communication of this message is the most important of all important tasks.

The prophethood culminated with the coming of the Prophet Muhammad. But the mission of prophethood continues and will continue till Doomsday. The task previously performed by the prophets will now be performed by the Muslim ummah. After the cessation of prophethood the duty it entails falls on the Muslims. That is, it is incumbent upon them to ceaselessly continue the communication of the divine message. If they fail to perform this duty, they will be taken to task on Doomsday by God. No act other than this will come to their rescue.

The relation of Muslims with other nations is that dayee and madu. In their capacity as dayees, they not only have to tolerate the oppression and injustice of other nations, but they have also to be the well-wishers of these nations unilaterally. Without this that atmosphere cannot be produced which is required for the effective performance of dawah.

This is the task which is called giving glad tidings and warnings. That is, informing all human beings of the scheme of God regarding human life and how God is going to deal with them in the stage of life after death. This is timely non-political and non-worldly task and must be performed in an appropriate manner.
