  Quran Foundation

The Quran is a divine book, which was revealed to the Prophet of Islam in the first quarter of the seventh century. It contains one hundred and fourteen chapters, some long and some short. The original text is preserved in Arabic and its translation is available in all the major languages, including English.

Quran Foundation has been set up under the aegis of CPS International (Center for Peace and Spirituality) by Maulana Wahiduddin Khan on April 2, 2015. The foundation aims to translated the Quran in all major International and national languages. Presently it has translated the Quran in more than 23 International and Indian languges such as English, Spanish, French, German Dutch, Chinese, Portuguese, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Telug and more. It, further, aims to disseminate them along with its commentaries and supporting material st that they reach each and every home on the face of the globe.

The main theme of the Quran is to make people aware of the Creation Plan of God. According to this divine plan, man was created as an eternal being. The Creator divided man’s life into two parts, pre-death and post-death. The pre-death period is that in which man is put to the test. The post-death period is that in which he will be rewarded or punished. The former is temporary, while the latter will last for all eternity.

The test of man is essentially freedom-based. One who misuses his freedom will be deprived of God’s blessings, while one who uses his freedom properly, will be rewarded with eternal paradise. All the details necessary to the understanding of this divine scheme are given in the Quran.

The purpose of Quran Foundation is to disseminate Quranic teachings by all the available means, such as the print and electronic media, in order to promote religious understanding among different peoples.  Specifically, it makes copies of the Quran and relevant literature easily available to every man and woman throughout the world. Further, the foundation aims to network for Quran dissemination globally, run courses of Quran and Islam and undertake researches on Quran (and Islam) and modernity as well as peace.

All the teachings of the Quran can be summarized under two headings: one, tawheed, that is, the oneness of God, and two, salaam, that is, peace. Tawheed gives us the divine ideology of life, which covers man’s entire existence. But Quranic teachings are not system-based: they focus on the individual.  They cover his thinking, his speech, his behaviour, his everyday dealings and his spirituality.

Tawheed means that God is one. He has created everything including man. It is God who has settled man on the planet earth, it is God who has created that system which is called the life support system, it is God who has created life and death, it is God who will reward or punish man. God is All-Powerful. There is no God but the one God and He reveals His guidance through the prophets.

Salaam, or peace, is the bedrock of Islam. Without peace it is impossible to follow Quranic teachings. It is only a peaceful mind or a peaceful soul who can apprehend the divine truth and translate it into his life. The importance of peace is not theoretical but practical. In our world there are millions and millions of people, each one with his own agenda. A peaceful atmosphere is,  therefore,  a  prerequisite for all men and women  if  they  are  to  carry  out  their  respective  plans: without social peace there can  be no constructive activities. In this sense, peace is central to all religious teachings, including those of the Quran.

The Quran aims at bringing about an intellectual revolution in every human being. All its teachings are therefore spiritual in nature. All its verses address the human mind, their main thrust being to promote contemplation, for which the Quranic word is al-taffakur.  The Quran, in effect, strives to promote spiritual behaviour and peaceful conduct in national as well as international life.

According to Quranic teachings, violence has no place in human life. Although Islam gives freedom to all, this comes with the proviso that this freedom should be exercised without resorting to violence. If an individual is peaceful in intent and conduct, he is allowed to exercise his freedom as he wills.

Belief, according to Islamic teachings, is a matter of one’s own choice. No one can be punished solely on account of having adopted a different belief.  On issues of belief, only peaceful discussion or peaceful dialogue is allowed. Legal punishment pertains strictly to social crimes.

All the basic tenets of spirituality, ethics, and peaceful behaviour are laid down in the Quran in very clear terms.  But the Quran is not a book of law; it is a book of ideology. Moreover, the Quran presents as a model of Quranic conduct the Prophet of Islam. The Prophet of Islam, who lived a full life, followed Quranic teachings in all aspects of his practical behaviour.  If one wants, therefore, to have an understanding of the tenets of the Quran, he may refer to the Quran and one who wants to become acquainted with the model of this Quranic conduct may study the life of the Prophet of Islam.

Regarding the multi-religious society, the Quran is very practical. It gives the following formula: For you your religion, for me mine. In other words: Follow one and respect all. This formula is based on the well-known principle of peaceful coexistence – indeed, the only way of existence in this world.

Peace, according to the Quran, is not simply a social value; it is a law of nature. The whole of nature follows the path of peace and the same is required of man, the only difference being that man is free to adopt peace as a matter of his own choice, while all other living creatures adopt peace under compulsion.

The Quran does not claim to be a superior book or a complete book. All the books sent by God were originally one and the same. The only merit that can be claimed for the Quran is that it is a book of divine revelation faithfully preserved as regards text and language in its original form.  This gives the Quran authenticity and credibility. One can study the Quran, therefore, with the conviction that it is the authentic version of God’s statement about his Creation Plan.

Quran Foundation endeavours to disseminate all these Quranic teachings by strictly peaceful methods through means like: one-on-one Interactions; peace and interfaith programs; television broadcasts: ETV, Zee Salam, etc., newspapers and journals: Times of India Speaking Tree, Sunday Guardian, Washington Post, etc.; online contributions: www.newageislam.org, www.speakingtree.com, etc.; international book fairs; Indian book fairs; street dawah; and various other means like placing material free of cost at malls, shops, tourist venues, mosques, cultural exchange centers, hotels and at other places that people gather like colleges and universities, donating to libraries, and carrying material wherever they go.

The Quran Foundation at New Delhi, India and its chapters worldwide strive to promote religious understanding among different peoples by making copies of the Quran and supporting material available free of cost or at subsidized rates. Through interactions, addressals, online, educational and academic programs they are striving to take the message of the Quran (and Islam) into each and every home—big or small.

Quran Foundation aims to consolidate these efforts through the development of  Quran Foundation Center at New Delhi. The center is planned  as  a  network  for  the  global  dissemination of  the Quran  and  related  material. With God’s Grace a five-storied building has been made available for the center.  Now the infrastructure is being developed to house a Quran Gallery-Cum-Conference Hall; a Bookstore-cum-Dawah Center; a Studio-Cum-Television Center; a Multi-Media Lecture Hall; and a Salah (prayer) Room-Cum-Library Hall.

The Prophet once observed: "If God grants guidance to a single person through you, it is better than all the things upon which the sun rises.” (Mustadrakal-Haakim, Note, 6537) With the objective of fulfilling your responsibility of spreading the word of God into every home as a member of ummat-e-wasat (Quran 3: 143) we invite you to become involved in spreading the Quran to all mankind.

We invite all to Join Quran Foundation to promote the peaceful message of the Quran.
